Roots

Welcome to Roots, our preschool located within De Horizon primary school at Brahmslaan 42 in Delft. We are part of the Stichting Delftse Peuterspeelscholen and provide early childhood education for children aged 2 to 4. In our nurturing and secure environment, toddlers have the space to play, discover and grow. We organise children in horizontal groups, allowing them to develop alongside peers of similar age. Our educational programme is designed to prepare children for primary school through play. We use the Pyramid method combined with IPC-Early years, creating a seamless transition from preschool to primary school and giving children familiarity and structure. Language development and reading aloud are central to our daily activities. We read picture books, sing songs and use thematic work to expand vocabulary. Our spacious group rooms are arranged with different corners such as a construction corner, home corner and reading corner. Children can play freely and choose activities that match their interests. We work extensively with natural materials and encourage creative expression through crafts and drawing. The garden of De Horizon is available for outdoor play, where children can run, cycle and explore nature. When weather permits, we play outside and use our picnic tables and sandpit. During the fixed sessions children spend with us, a healthy lifestyle is central. We provide healthy snacks such as fruit and water or tea. For children with food allergies, we accommodate their dietary needs. In our rest areas, children can relax and sleep on comfortable beds. We have fixed nap times adjusted to the child's needs. Roots collaborates with De Horizon primary school and is part of the Community school. This partnership offers children additional opportunities and a smooth transition to primary education.
