Welcome to Partou KDV Nederlandhof 3, our homely toddler day-care in the heart of Almere-Poort. We are located on the ground floor of primary school De Columbusschool at Nederlandhof 3. With a maximum of 16 children per day we work in two small, horizontal toddler groups so that every child receives the attention they deserve. Everything we do is centred on learning through play. We always start the morning with a shared moment: singing, reading aloud or a circle talk about the theme of the week. Afterwards the children choose what they want to do: build with large blocks in the construction corner, craft at the creativity table, or join the activity that the pedagogical staff have prepared. Music is central to our programme; we sing daily, use simple instruments and listen to different styles of music. The garden behind the school building is our outdoor classroom: there we plant flowers, search for insects and run free on the natural play structure. Early childhood education (VVE) is not a separate programme for us, but a way of working. We carefully observe each child’s development, set small goals and align our activities accordingly. Together with the municipality of Almere we offer extra language and numeracy moments in the form of short, playful lessons. Parents receive photos and short reports via our Partou app so they can connect at home with what their child has discovered that day. Our spaces are bright, warmly furnished and safe. The toddler group has its own sleeping corner with beds and cuddly toys, a changing corner with everything within reach and a cosy eating area where we share fruit and drinks together. We take allergies and dietary requirements into account; if in doubt we always consult parents and, if necessary, the child health clinic doctor.
