Fort Kakola

BSO Fort Kakola is uniquely located inside the historic gun casemate of Fort Lunet III, part of the New Dutch Waterline and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Our premises at Houtensepad 150d in Utrecht Lunetten welcome 40 children aged 8 to 13, split into two groups. Indoors, children enjoy two spacious group rooms where they can play board games, curl up with a book, get creative in the art studio using natural materials, or cook and bake in our kitchen. A small stage invites them to perform music or theatre for their friends. Outside, a large green playground offers endless adventure. Children tend vegetables in the garden, build structures from reclaimed wood, saw and hammer in the workshop, play football or hide in self-made dens. Water is a key element: when it rains we explore how water flows, build rafts and discover what makes a construction float. When the canals freeze, we go ice-skating. We collect children after school from De Baanbreker, De Klim, De Spits and Leonardo primary schools. On Wednesday and Friday afternoons, as well as during all school holidays and study days, we join BSO Maan to guarantee a full and varied programme. Our daily work is guided by the Pedagogical Heart of Kind&co ludens: children feel safe, are encouraged to explore, grow and cooperate. We provide a rich, inspiring environment where play and learning go hand in hand.
