We are Kinderopvang Prins Vleermuis Kernhem, located at Stakenberg 85 in the Kernhem district of Ede. Our centre is within walking distance of Parkweide shopping centre and offers places for up to 64 children aged 0 to 4. We work with horizontal groups: one baby group, one toddler group and two pre-school groups. Each group has its own room and the garden is divided into two parts so that every age group can play safely and be appropriately challenged. Personal attention is at the heart of everything we do. Our pedagogical staff follow the Thomas Gordon method: we listen actively, name feelings and guide children in solving conflicts themselves. Every day we give personal handovers at drop-off and pick-up; on the baby group we use a daily notebook for this. We want parents and children to feel welcome and seen. To support language and social-emotional development we use the Early Childhood Education programme ‘Uk & Puk’. Puk, the puppet, joins the circle, sings, tells stories and plays with the children. We sing and make music, do arts and crafts, read aloud and regularly go on excursions to the forest, the petting farm or nearby playgrounds. Outdoor play is just as important as indoor play: “There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing.” Practical matters are taken care of for you. Nappies, wipes, fruit, bread and hot meals are included in the price; only formula needs to be brought from home. We take allergies and other dietary needs into account. Every child has their own cot and a basket for personal belongings. During nappy changes we always use the child’s own cloth in accordance with hygiene regulations. Each child is greeted personally when they arrive. We always arrange an introductory visit and tour before a registration becomes final, followed by one or two settling mornings (9.30-12.30) including an intake conversation. This way both parents and child can experience what a day with us feels like.
