KIJK is a small-scale daycare centre located at Scharnerweg 12A in Maastricht. We care for a maximum of 10 children per day, ensuring the homely atmosphere and personal attention that define our setting. A stable team of five pedagogical staff members—no substitutes—means children and parents always see familiar faces. Our vertical group (0-4 years) fosters a warm climate in which older children learn to be considerate of the little ones, while the youngest draw inspiration from the older children. This age mix supports natural social development and a strong sense of community. KIJK’s philosophy is inspired by the insights of paediatrician Emmi Pikler: respect for a stable personal bond and respect for the child’s independent exploration. In practice, babies are given plenty of freedom of movement, are fed on a caregiver’s lap, and all children enjoy ample space for free play. They may choose which materials to engage with; the process of discovery is what matters, not the end product. Our pedagogical staff follow each child’s interests and needs and only intervene when truly necessary. KIJK is open 48 weeks a year, Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. We are closed on national holidays and on both Monday and Tuesday of Carnival.
