Kindercentrum Ter Doest

Welcome to Kindercentrum Ter Doest, located inside primary school Ter Doest at Jacintastraat 1 in the heart of Graauw. We are a day-care centre (KDV) for children aged 0–4 and part of the HKZ-certified organisation Kinderopvang Zeeuws-Vlaanderen. With a maximum of 16 places, our setting is small-scale and easy to oversee. Our spacious indoor area is divided into different play and discovery corners: a doll corner with toy kitchen, a construction corner, a reading corner, a car corner, a Lego table and a large table for daily arts & crafts. The youngest babies have their own secure baby/toddler room with a soft play area. Every child has an individual bed in our quiet sleep room so that rest and routine are guaranteed. We follow a fixed daily rhythm in which fresh fruit is served twice a day and we all eat sandwiches together at noon. For babies we keep the home feeding and sleeping schedule as much as possible; parents record this in the Jaamo app and we adapt flexibly. Parents provide the bottle, pacifier, cuddly toy and a personal sleeping bag. Thematic working is our standard. Based on an annual calendar we choose themes that connect with young children’s world of experience and stimulate their social-emotional development. We read aloud, sing, dance and make small trips through the village: to the herb garden, past the goats or simply enjoy fresh air on the large school playground with sandpit, slide, grass and balance beam. For toddlers aged 2–4 we offer the recognised Early Childhood Education programme Uk & Puk. Through play they expand their vocabulary, practise early maths and language skills and already become familiar with the infant classes. Intensive cooperation with Year 1/2 makes the later transition to primary school smooth and familiar. Our permanent team of pedagogical staff – Petra, Randy, Nancy and Joyce – work on fixed days so that every child has one familiar face. We attend regular training and provide placements for trainees to learn the profession. Together we create a safe, homely environment in which every child feels seen and heard. Curious?
