KDV Groningen Ienemini

Day-care centre Ienemini is a homely Kids First location in the Selwerd district, housed in the large building of the Vensterschool at Eikenlaan 288-5 in Groningen. We provide care for children aged 0 to 4 in a small, manageable group we call the ‘Tommie’ group. This set-up allows our pedagogical staff to see and guide every baby, toddler and pre-schooler individually. Outdoor play is important to us. Our own outdoor play area has a sandpit, ride-on toys and a slide, and we regularly use the adjacent inner court for shared play and discovery. We actively participate in the City of Groningen’s pilot project ‘accessible day care’, enabling children from the Selwerd, Paddepoel and Tuinwijk neighbourhoods to attend two sessions a week for play and development. Our location is part of the “Peaceful Neighbourhood” initiative. Together with local schools and organisations we work on one clear pedagogical approach, and we maintain close contact with primary school ‘de Pendinghe’ and the WIJ-team located in the same building. This way children learn from an early age what it means to live and play together. At Ienemini we use the Early Childhood Education (ECE) programme. It stimulates language, numeracy and social skills in a playful way that matches young children’s world of experience. We offer both day-care and pre-school care, with parents free to choose half or full days. Nappies, fruit and bread meals are included, so parents can work or study without worry.
