Peuterspeelschool de Horizon

Peuterspeelschool De Horizon is located at Brusselstraat 15 in Hengelo and started in February 2025 as part of Integral Child Centre (IKC) De Horizon. We offer a peaceful, safe place where children aged 2.5 to 4 learn the Dutch language through play. Our programme is designed for children who have lived in the Netherlands for a maximum of two years and are not yet proficient in Dutch, as well as for children who have lived here longer but still lack sufficient language skills to attend a regular pre-school playgroup. Each week we provide sixteen hours of Early Childhood Education (ECE), spread over four mornings: Tuesday to Friday from 8.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. The first fifteen minutes are for calmly arriving and saying goodbye. Afterwards our fixed programme begins, consisting of circle time, free play, outdoor play, eating and drinking together, arts & crafts and/or movement activities. All activities are tailored to the developmental stage of toddlers and stimulate language development, motor skills and social-emotional abilities. Our pedagogical staff work closely with the primary school teachers. By using the same themes and regularly playing with the kindergarten children, we create a smooth continuous line from pre-school to group 1. Parents and professionals form a close team: we organise parent meetings, share knowledge and offer a book and toy lending service. Together we ensure that every child can make the transition to primary school feeling secure and well-prepared.
