Peuterspeelontdekplek Villa Emilia is located at Ieborchpaed 6 in the heart of Lekkum and serves as a trusted meeting place where children from age two can play and learn in a relaxed atmosphere. We are part of Stichting Kinderopvang Friesland and share our vision with the adjacent Professor Wassenberghskoale. At this small-scale location, we welcome a maximum of 16 children, ensuring personal attention for each child. Our pedagogical approach is based on the Reggio Emilia philosophy. We believe that children speak a hundred languages to express themselves and learn. The child is central in their own developmental process. We work with three core concepts: individual, space and action. Our pedagogical staff carefully observe the children and offer new opportunities in their discovery journey or provide guidance when needed. Our spaces are thoughtfully designed with different corners that invite play and discovery. We have a home corner, construction corner, studio corner, reading corner, music and technology corner. Additionally, we use the gymnasium for movement activities, as space is important for toddlers' play. The garden offers opportunities to play with water, sand, light and shadow. We work thematically and incorporate seasons and annual celebrations into our activities. In spring we visit lambs and chicks come to visit. In summer we pick flowers and search for creepy crawlies. In autumn we make applesauce from self-picked apples and in winter we enjoy working with wool and warm bread. Our mornings have a fixed rhythm with daily rhythm cards that tell children what will happen. We start the day together in a circle, share fruit, sing songs and read stories. Creative activities include painting, clay work, felting and experimenting with different materials. Choice boxes and our richly equipped play cupboard offer plenty of opportunities for free play within a familiar structure. Parents are important partners in our community. Together we create 'speaking walls' with photos, texts and created work. Parents regularly receive Toddler News and class parents help with activities and outings. Parents are also invited to share their own talents, such as reading stories, theater or yoga.
