Welcome to Kinderopvang de Vlieger, a small-scale daycare centre located at Hamrik 6 in the heart of Winsum. Since January 2010 we have offered a warm second home to up to 22 children aged 0 to 4. Our location is organised in horizontal groups: on the ground floor you will find an intimate baby/toddler group for a maximum of 9 children aged 0-2.5 years, while the first floor houses a pre-school group for up to 13 children aged 1.5-4 years. Transition moments are always carefully coordinated with parents so that each child moves on at exactly the right time. Everything revolves around a homely atmosphere. Our living-room-style spaces, permanent pedagogical staff and small scale create familiarity and calm. We believe children only flourish when they feel safe and seen. That is why we follow an in-depth pedagogical policy focused on recognising and nurturing each child’s unique talents. Our back garden – large, green and inviting – is a true discovery garden where children play, romp and experience the seasons every day. Creativity and language are central to our daily activities. We sing a lot, make music and work thematically with clay, paint and natural materials. The seasons form our natural guideline: in autumn we collect leaves and make mandalas, in winter we bake gingerbread and listen to winter stories. Everything is aimed at stimulating language development and feeding the imagination. In between, there is plenty of room for rest and routine: children sleep in separate bedrooms with cots and cradles, drinking and eating takes place in small groups at the table and of course we take care of all practical matters such as bottle feeding, fresh fruit and healthy snacks. Allergies and special wishes are discussed personally so that every child gets exactly what they need. Parents describe our approach as warm, personal and committed.
