Welcome to Ot & Sien Small-Scale Daycare at Oosthavenkade 58 in the heart of Vlaardingen. Since 2002, Dorothé and Anton Samson – together with their close-knit team – have offered a warm, home-like place where children aged 0 to 4 feel safe and loved. Our name refers to the classic adventures of Ot and Sien, and we bring that same playful curiosity and sense of security to life every single day. We work in one vertical group: babies, toddlers and preschoolers learn and play side by side. The youngest watch the oldest, the oldest develop caring skills. The result is one big family in which every child can develop at his or her own pace. We follow the pedagogical policy of Radius Nederland, yet translate it into a cosy nest built on four pillars: Respectful approach, Spatial approach, Individual approach and Positive approach – RRIP for short. That means we take every child seriously, offer space to explore and always think along from a positive mindset. Our playrooms are furnished like a living room: no long corridors or massive halls, just snug corners, a large table for creative projects and a garden where we spend as much time outdoors as possible. The day starts with a calm welcome, followed by a varied programme: singing, reading aloud, building, crafting, digging in the sand or simply crawling and climbing around. In between we serve fresh, healthy food and offer quiet moments in our separate sleep room. Bottle feeding, fruit and drinks are included; specific dietary needs are discussed with parents. For new children we use a careful settling-in period. One fixed staff member stays close to the child so a trusted bond is quickly formed. Only when a child feels emotionally safe can he or she fully join in all activities and discoveries. We communicate openly with parents through our Parent App and are always ready for a chat at drop-off and pick-up.
