KDV Jirnsum 't Kattekuorke

Welcome to ’t Kattekuorke, our warm toddler day-care in the heart of Jirnsum. Located in the community centre “it Kattehûs” at Rijksweg 180, we have been offering a safe, challenging and playful learning environment for up to 16 toddlers a day since 2015 as part of Kids First. Our setting is specially designed for children aged 2 to 4 who are not yet in primary school but are eager to prepare for that next step through play. Everything we do centres on “purposeful play”. We use the Early Childhood Education programme Uk & Puk to weave language, numeracy, social skills and independence naturally into play. Each morning starts with a circle time where we sing, read a book and discuss the day using our daily-routine cards. Children then choose from different corners: the reading corner with picture books and story cards, the construction corner where we work on emerging numeracy, the creative corner for crafts and painting, and of course our spacious garden where we spend at least one hour outside every day. Outside we climb, run, and explore sand and water – all part of our fixed daily rhythm. Our experienced pedagogical staff provide loving attention and a sense of security. We maintain a clear structure with familiar faces so every child feels safe and seen. Fresh fruit and a healthy bread meal are always available; special dietary needs are discussed with parents. Toddlers nap in our quiet sleep room, each child having their own bed. We believe it is important for children to learn what they do and do not want, to be allowed to say “stop”, and for us to solve conflicts together. In this way they grow not only in skills but also in self-confidence and resilience. Parents are always welcome. We organise parent meetings twice a year, but the door is always open for a chat or to help during an activity. Together we ensure that your child starts primary school with a broad smile and a solid foundation.
