Hero Peuteropvang Schäferstraat

Hero Peuteropvang Schäferstraat is a small-scale toddler day-care centre in Haarlem where we provide a safe and stimulating environment every morning for up to 16 toddlers aged 2 to 4. Our home at Dirk Schäferstraat 3 is set up as one large, playful group space in which children can fully express themselves. We work with a fixed, close-knit group so that every child quickly feels at home and becomes familiar with the pedagogical staff and friends. We start the day at 8:15 a.m. and finish at 12:15 p.m., leaving the afternoon free for rest or other activities. During these mornings we follow the Early Childhood Education programme ‘Uk & Puk’. This programme offers playful themes that fit perfectly with toddlers’ world of experience: from animals and seasons to transport and emotions. By singing, crafting, puzzling and playing together, children develop language, motor and social skills without even realising it. It’s learning through play, exactly as it should be at this age. Our spacious garden invites outdoor play. There is room to run, build sandcastles or simply daydream in the shade. We believe it is important for children to spend a lot of time outside so they can discover nature and burn off energy. A healthy lifestyle and sustainability are central to us; we teach children in a playful way how to take good care of themselves and the world around them.
