KDV Leeuwarden Greunshiem

Welcome to KDV Greunshiem, our warm and small-scale daycare centre in Leeuwarden. Since 2014 we have been part of the Greunshiem neighbourhood care centre at Tjotterstraat 16. We provide care for children aged 0 to 4 in a homely atmosphere where loving attention and security are central. With us, children are allowed to be children and are given every opportunity to play and develop. Our location has two horizontal groups: the baby group 'Guppies' for the little ones and the toddler group 'Dolphins' for the older children. This arrangement provides peace and overview, allowing us to optimally follow each child's development. Because we work on a small scale, all pedagogical staff know each child and the parents personally. This makes the transition from baby to toddler group smooth and familiar. What makes us special is that we are a bilingual childcare centre. We pay attention to both Dutch and Frisian, supported by our certificate 'boartsjendewei in taal derby' and the Frisian Language Childcare Centre (SFBO). We work thematically on the children's development using the Uk and Puk programme. Occasionally we choose our own theme such as 'Spring' or 'Party'. With each theme, parents receive a theme letter with fun activities and songs to continue the theme at home. Our indoor space is cosy and inviting, but our outdoor area is also a real paradise. Children can play to their heart's content with bikes and cars, romp in the large sandbox or cook in our outdoor kitchen. We love to go outside when the weather permits. With our pushcart, we regularly make trips in the neighbourhood. A unique aspect of our location is the collaboration with the Greunshiem neighbourhood care centre. Every two weeks we visit the Neighbourhood Square where we do an activity together with elderly people and clients of Talant. We also celebrate St Martin and St Nicholas together with them. These encounters are valuable for young and old. We find parent involvement very important. Every year we organise a parents' evening with an interesting theme and a cosy summer party for the whole family. We also regularly ask parents, grandparents to help with activities such as the reading breakfast. Once a year, around the child's birthday, we schedule a 10-minute conversation to discuss the child's development. In between, there is always contact when picking up and dropping off.
