KDV De Wijde Wereld

Welcome to KDV De Wijde Wereld, located in the Montessori Child Center at Haya van Somerenpad 1 in Haarlem. We provide care for up to 43 children aged 0 to 4 years in a warm, homely environment where development is central. Our daycare follows the pedagogical values of Maria Montessori. This means children have plenty of freedom to choose their own activities. The spacious and bright rooms are specially designed to allow children to learn actively and in different ways. In the various play corners, children can independently choose what they want to play with. At the easels, two children can paint simultaneously, and cutting and pasting materials are available. This teaches children responsibility and that taking turns is part of the process. Almost all toys are made of wood or other natural materials. We have cylinder blocks, for example, with which children can discover differences between big and small or thick and thin. In trays with dry rice and grains, children can feel what is soft and what is hard. We also pay considerable attention to music, with a substantial collection of instruments. We work with three fixed groups: one baby group and two toddler/preschool groups. This horizontal group structure provides peace and familiarity for the children. Besides the daycare, there is also a preschool and after-school care in the MKC, ensuring smooth transitions. Our pedagogical staff align as much as possible with the children's wishes and guide them in their development. We believe in the power of independence and give children space to explore in a safe and familiar environment.
