Boomgaard Kidz

BSO Boomgaard Kidz is a homely after-school care centre located at Gibraltarstraat 61 in Amsterdam-West. We are part of Kinderopvang Parvaneh and provide care for up to 27 children from grades 1-8 of De Boomgaard primary school. Children are welcomed into two fixed groups: the Bengels (10 children) and Peter Pan (17 children). Each group has dedicated pedagogical staff who collect the children from their classrooms after school. Our space is divided into different corners that match what children enjoy after a long school day. There is a chill-out area with books and music, a construction corner with LEGO and Duplo, a dolls and kitchen area, and a dress-up zone. In our Children’s Cooking Café, children can help prepare a healthy meal on Wednesday afternoons and during holidays. They learn not only to cook, but also to set the table and clean up. We rotate so every child gets a turn to cook and we welcome ‘requests’. After school is free time. Therefore, we offer both relaxation and challenging activities without any obligation to participate. We run workshops such as capoeira, football, dance (street-dance, belly-dance, zumba), drama/theatre, music/rapping, chess, yoga and cake-decorating. We also go on regular outings to Artis Zoo, the Amsterdam Forest, museums or TunFun. During study days and school holidays we are open from 7:30 to 18:30. Parents receive a tailor-made quotation based on the required care days and can swap days at no extra cost. We believe every child should feel seen and respected. Our pedagogical staff notice the signals of both energetic and quiet children and adapt activities to the group’s needs. In this way, children at Boomgaard Kidz grow at their own pace in a relaxed manner.
