IJsterk De Regenboog

Welcome to IJsterk De Regenboog, our green daycare centre at Houtmankade 60 in Amsterdam. We provide care for up to 83 children aged 0–4 in a spacious, bright building that was one of the first in Amsterdam purpose-built for childcare. Located in the middle of a public playground and only minutes from Westerpark and the new Houthavens district, our setting is truly green. Autonomy is at the heart of our pedagogical vision. We give children space to discover new things on their own; through trial and error they build self-confidence. Every day we go outside in our large natural garden, whatever the weather. The garden features a willow tunnel, big sandpit, crawl tunnel and willow yurt where children can play endlessly with water, sand, branches and bikes, letting imagination and cooperation flourish. Our team consists of dedicated childcare professionals, our own location manager and cook Roos. Together we create a warm, safe atmosphere where every child feels seen. Themes such as fantasy, movement, fairy tales and water guide our activities: crafts, music, reading, drama, movement and yoga games. Musicians, dancers and visual artists regularly enrich our programme; the creative process is what matters, not the end result. Healthy food is important to us. Roos prepares a hot, varied meal every day using natural, fresh and, whenever possible, organic products. Vegetarian or halal meals are available. Children help with preparation, discovering ingredients and flavours along the way. De Regenboog works with horizontal groups: babies, toddlers and preschoolers are cared for separately so we can meet their developmental needs.
