SKSG Hummelhuis

Welcome to SKSG Hummelhuis, a green oasis in the heart of Groningen city center. In our charming monumental building at Spilsluizen 3, we provide daycare and preschool for children aged 0-4 years. With a maximum capacity of 53 children, we create a homely environment where cosiness and respect are central values. Our location is a paradise for children. In the large green discovery garden with jungle path, sandboxes and wooden playhouse, children can play and explore. We have two covered sandboxes where toddlers can play hide and seek or bake sand cakes. Babies enjoy their sleeping houses or crawl around in the beautiful city garden. We work with four core groups: Babbelaars (0-2 years, max 8 children), Tuinkabouters (1.5-4 years, max 13 children), Flierefluiters (1.5-4 years, max 13 children) and Hummeltjes (0-2 years, max 12 children). Each child has their own mentor who serves as the contact point for parents. Our pedagogical approach is inspired by Emmi Pikler for the baby groups. Toddlers (2.5-4 years) receive at least 960 hours of preschool education through the VVE program Startblokken. We offer a varied activity program based on themes, where risky play is part of development. We maintain a fixed daily rhythm with alternating active and quiet moments, taking individual needs into account. For babies, we adapt as much as possible to their home rhythm until approximately 1 year old. Breastfeeding can be given on-site or brought in bottles. Our nutrition policy focuses on healthy food. We ask parents to bring spare clothes and healthy treats for birthdays. The parent committee represents the interests of parents and children. We are open from 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM with flexible care options available.
