Hero Peuteropvang Van Aemstelstraat

Welcome to Hero Peuteropvang Van Aemstelstraat, located on the ground floor of primary school De Dolfijn at Gijsbrecht van Aemstelstraat 118 in Haarlem. We provide toddler care for up to 16 children aged 2 to 4 years. Our space features a cosy reading corner filled with beautiful books where children come to read stories every day. We work with changing themes that connect to toddlers’ world of experience. With each new theme we transform the home corner – it might become a hospital or a farm. For birthday children we bring out our pretend cake with candles; the birthday child is the centre of attention and we sing festive songs together. Pop Puk is our constant friend and sits every day in the circle on his own chair or on a child’s lap. Our outdoor area borders the playground of De Dolfijn. Older brothers and sisters often come to wave at the fence. Children who are almost four may practise a few times with the kindergarten group; one of our pedagogical staff members guides this, ensuring a smooth transition to primary school. We use the VVE programme Uk & Puk, which playfully prepares toddlers for primary education. Together we sing songs, do puzzles, craft and learn to share and take turns. In this way we make every day a celebration and the children naturally grow towards the next step in their development.
