Our daycare centre at Van Oosten de Bruijnstraat 62A in southern Haarlem is a small-scale location where a maximum of 36 children aged 0 to 4 find a second home. We are part of Stichting Hero kindercentra, a non-profit organisation that operates more than eighty locations in Haarlem and the surrounding area. What makes our site special is its location: we are right next to an animal shelter, a large playground and a skate park. So the children can not only enjoy our own lovely garden, but also regularly go on discovery trips in the immediate surroundings. For the older toddlers and pre-schoolers, the Geel-Wit sports ground around the corner is an extra play paradise. Inside, we work in one vertical group: babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers are together. This way, the very youngest learn from the older children and the pre-schoolers develop their caring and sense of responsibility. Our experienced pedagogical staff tailor activities to each child's world of experience, so that everyone can grow at his or her own pace. We believe that nature experience, a healthy lifestyle and sustainability are important. That is why we go outside almost every day – also to sleep when the weather permits – and teach the children in a playful way how to take good care of themselves and the world around them.
