Heemhuys Zonnekind

Heemhuys Zonnekind is a small-scale daycare centre located at Weteringstraat 275 in Rotterdam-Kralingen. As part of the Heemhuys organisation, we provide care for up to 10 children aged 0 to 4 years in a homely, living-room atmosphere. Our approach is based on the anthroposophical view of the human being, where each child is seen and guided as a unique individual. At Heemhuys Zonnekind we work with vertical groups where children of different ages play and learn together. We believe it's important that children feel safe and secure. Therefore our space is furnished as a warm living room with natural materials and seasonal accents. Children are involved in daily activities such as cooking, washing dishes, hanging laundry and cleaning toys. This contributes to their development and gives them a sense of belonging. We pay great attention to rhythm and regularity. The days are structured with fixed moments for playing, eating, sleeping and outdoor play. We use organic and seasonal products for meals which we prepare together with the children. Singing, crafting and imaginative play are daily activities that stimulate creative development. Our connection with nature is strongly present: we go outside as much as possible and actively experience the seasons through seasonal tables and annual festivals. Our pedagogical staff are trained in the Heemhuys vision and provide each child with the individual attention they deserve.
