BSO Smaragd

Welcome to BSO Smaragd, our cheerful after-school care facility in the heart of Rotterdam-Oude Westen. We are located in the school building of Kindcentrum Het Oude Westen at Van Speykstraat 109, where we provide a safe and challenging place for up to 30 children from the neighborhood every day after school. Our pedagogical staff are ready to pick up children aged 4 to 12 from various schools in the city center, including Het Oude Westen, Augustinusschool, ’t Landje, De Jan Prins, and Willibrordschool. We personally collect the children and guide them to our location, where an afternoon full of fun and relaxation awaits. At BSO Smaragd, we believe that growing is a journey of discovery. Children discover who they are, what they want, and what talents they have. That's why we offer a varied activity program every day that matches the children's interests. Think of sports activities, cozy board games, creative craft projects, imaginative play, and fun outdoor activities. We use the kindergarten playground behind the building, the school playground at the front, and we regularly walk to Weena Playground, which is just a stone's throw away. Between 4:00 and 5:00 PM, there is a varied activity program ready. Children can choose what they want to participate in - there's always something that suits them. There is also quiet space to do homework under the guidance of our pedagogical staff. Around 5:00 PM, we serve fresh fruit, vegetables, and water. After that, there is still time for free play until parents come to pick up their children. During school holidays and study days, we are open from 7:30 AM to 6:30 PM. We start the day together with fruit at 9:30 AM, after which we go on an outing or organize a special activity on location. Think of cooking workshops, sports challenges, or creative projects. Around 12:00 PM, we have lunch together, and then there is plenty of time for a second activity or free play. Even during holidays, we go out: we visit the swimming pool, theater, or discover other fun places in Rotterdam. Our location manager Rachél Bekker and her team guarantee a warm, homely atmosphere where every child can be themselves.
