De Vrije Speelklas

Welcome to De Vrije Speelklas, located at Abbenbroekweg 7 in The Hague. We are a horizontally structured toddler care centre for up to 48 children aged 2 to 4. Our home is a converted residential house with a large, natural garden where children can play, garden and experience the seasons. Our pedagogy is inspired by Rudolf Steiner’s anthroposophical vision: we provide a calm, homely environment in which play, art and nature are central. The day begins with a regular circle in which we sing, tell stories and discuss the day together. Children are then free to choose from various activities: painting with natural dyes, crafting with wool and wood, baking bread, gardening or simply playing in the sandpit or greenhouse. We use organic and vegetarian produce and take allergies into account. Fruit and drinks are included; bread meals are prepared together with the children. Our teachers are specially trained in anthroposophical pedagogy and guide the children with warm attention and respect for their individual developmental pace. We work with small groups and a fixed daily rhythm so that every child feels safe and secure. Early childhood education (VVE) is provided through a language and development programme that prepares children for primary school.
