De Vlinderboom op school

De Vlinderboom op school is the after-school care (BSO) for children attending the Rudolf Steiner School Alkmaar, located at Sperwerstraat 1 in Alkmaar. Rooted in anthroposophical pedagogy, we create one seamless, familiar world together with the school. Our BSO is housed in the cosy Vlinderboom classroom and the Tummetot classroom, both arranged as warm living rooms where children feel at home. We provide care after school hours, on teacher training days and during all school holidays. The child’s leisure experience is central: chatting together about the school day, reading aloud, playing games or free play. In addition, our pedagogical staff organise themed activities throughout the year that children can join as they wish. Older children have access to age-appropriate books, board games, tools and dress-up clothes. We actively encourage outdoor play; the schoolyard offers materials for sandpit adventures, hut building or a game of football. Our group is vertically structured: toddlers and primary school children are together, allowing young and old to learn from each other. On Tuesdays there is a separate toddler group in the Tummetot classroom. During holidays we run a varied and challenging programme, regularly organising trips to the dunes, the forest, a farm or a large playground. All food we provide is organic-biodynamic and prepared with care. Opening hours follow the school timetable: Monday to Friday from 12:45 to 18:30. During holidays and on teacher training days we are open from 08:00 to 18:30. Each afternoon we welcome up to 30 children under the guidance of three experienced pedagogical staff members, ensuring small-scale, calm and personal attention for every child.
