De Staatsliedjes

BSO De Staatsliedjes is a small-scale after-school care centre located inside primary school De Schakel, right in the Staatsliedenkwartier district of Woerden. We provide care for up to 44 children aged 4 to 7. Because we are literally situated in the school, children do not have to travel far: when lessons end they simply walk through to our own corner in the school hall. We also have access to the sports room for games and activities and to the spacious, green playground with climbing frames and a wide range of play equipment. Our approach is built on the Pedagogical Heart of Kind&co ludens. This means we work from four pillars: ‘feeling good and having fun’ is the foundation, because only children who feel safe can truly explore. Next we encourage ‘growing and discovering’ by giving children confidence and space to be curious. We offer a rich environment with active, inspiring and challenging activities. Finally, we value ‘togetherness’: our centre is a mini-society in which we care for each other and the world around us. The activity programme is varied and theme-based. We cook and bake regularly, create crafts with different materials and organise sporty games both indoors in the sports room and outdoors on the playground. Children decide for themselves whether to join in; for us, play is the most powerful form of discovery and learning. For every activity we have a sports cupboard full of equipment so we can quickly respond to the children’s interests. During school holidays we are open from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. We also provide care on study days and school closure days, ensuring parents always have reliable childcare. Children from De Schakel primary can enrol directly; children from other schools are referred to our sister locations elsewhere in Woerden. In short, at BSO De Staatsliedjes children find a familiar place close to home and school, where after an intensive school day they can play, move, relax and discover new things.
