Peuterschool Obs de Toermalijn Hijkerveld is a branch of De Rotterdamse Peuterschool, located on the grounds of public primary school Obs de Toermalijn at Hijkerveld 5 in Rotterdam-Charlois. We provide a safe, familiar place for toddlers aged 2 to 4, where they are playfully prepared for primary school. Our pedagogical approach follows the Rotterdam education policy ‘A flying start for every Rotterdam toddler’. We focus on developing independent, social and resilient children. Learning through play is central: we connect with the child’s world of experience and stimulate language, motor skills and social abilities through targeted activities. Toddlers have room to explore, experiment and play together. Groups are horizontally structured, allowing children to grow in a calm setting with peers of the same age. We work closely with the teachers of groups 1 and 2 at Obs de Toermalijn, ensuring a smooth and familiar transition from preschool to kindergarten. Parents can choose from several sessions per week. The municipality of Rotterdam offers every toddler from the age of 2 six hours of free pre-school education per week; additional hours are available for a fee.
