De Kleine Hugo

Welcome to De Kleine Hugo, our small-scale toddler playgroup in the heart of Arnhem. We are part of SKAR Childcare and provide care for up to 16 children aged 2 to 4. Located at Thorbeckestraat 21, our setting is the starting point for many Arnhem toddlers: most children who later enter grade 1-2 of the adjacent Hugo de Groot primary school begin their development with us. We use a clear vertical group structure: all toddlers are together in one group. This encourages social development and interaction between younger and older children. At the centre of our programme is the VVE curriculum (Pre- and Early-School Education). Through this programme we help children learn new words through play, create themed crafts and practise self-reliance. This preparation for primary education runs seamlessly: parents can register their child for the reception class of Hugo de Groot primary school ten months before the child turns four. Our pedagogical staff create a warm, safe environment in which every child can be themselves. We give space to explore independently, take initiative and colour outside the lines. Thanks to this approach we see our toddlers literally grow: they develop optimally and move on to the next stage of their school career with confidence.
