De Draaimolen

Welcome to De Draaimolen, our vibrant daycare centre in the heart of Amsterdam-Noord. We are located in a characteristic old building at Molenwijk 3A, right next to primary school De Wilgenstam and after-school care De Sleekoepel. With 82 places we provide care for children aged 0 – 4 in a warm, homely environment. Our open-door policy and the many glass partitions create a cosy living-room atmosphere. Babies can watch the toddlers and preschoolers with curiosity, while the older children are proud when they are allowed to visit the babies. We therefore work in vertical groups: children of different ages share the spaces and learn from each other. Play follows your child’s own rhythm. All materials are stored low and within reach, so every child can choose what to explore. Our pedagogical staff are ready to guide, comfort or join in – whatever is needed. At drop-off we give extra attention to a smile and a pleasant goodbye; we take your child on our lap and wave together. The outdoors is just as important as indoors. We have a large, green nature garden with tall trees, a climbing frame, swings, bikes, a sandpit and even an outdoor reading corner. The very youngest have their own sheltered play area at the front, so they can romp safely without being overrun by the older children. Whenever the weather allows, we go outside: put on the rain boots and start exploring! Rest and relaxation matter too. In separate sleeping rooms children can nap in their own familiar bed. For babies we have bottle warmers and change nappies on request; for toddlers and preschoolers a healthy snack is ready. We take allergies and dietary wishes into account; just let us know. De Draaimolen uses Early Childhood Education (VE). Through play we stimulate language, motor skills, social abilities and creativity. We read aloud in our book corner, sing songs, craft with natural materials from the garden and make music together with simple instruments. Every summer we end with a cosy garden party: parents and children are welcome for games, refreshments and of course a dance. Feel free to drop by and experience the atmosphere.
