Welcome to Buitenkans After-School Care, located at Meteorenweg 280 in Amsterdam-Noord. Our centre is a safe haven for primary-school children aged 4 to 12. After a busy day at school children need both calm and space to move; we offer both. Inside we have our own art studio and wood-work corner where children can paint, craft and build. The kitchen is designed for kids: here we bake bread or cookies, cook soup or prepare a warm lunch with vegetables from our own garden or from the neighbouring urban-farming project. Outside there is a large natural garden with climbing trees, sand pits, vegetable beds and plenty of room to play football or simply run around. We also make grateful use of three adjacent sports clubs and a nature playground. Our qualified pedagogical staff make sure every child can choose what he or she needs: reading a book in a quiet corner, joining sports & games or exploring nature independently. On regular school days a healthy and sustainable snack is served. During holidays or study days we provide a warm lunch, often prepared with the children’s help. At Buitenkans we give children the space to grow, right in the middle of nature.
