Welcome to Buitenschoolse opvang De Ontdekking, located at St.-Annastraat 8 in the heart of Gemert. We provide a homely and trusted place where school-age children from 4 to 12 years can relax, play and discover new things after school. Our permanent team of pedagogical staff is ready every day to welcome the children with pleasure and to offer them a safe journey of discovery in a homely atmosphere. We work with small, horizontal groups in which children feel safe and seen. Each group has a fixed mentor who pays extra attention to the well-being of a select number of children and is the point of contact for parents. The mentor follows the development of ‘her’ children, keeps the child tracking system up to date and discusses every three months with the team how each child is doing. Parents receive a form from us with the name of their son or daughter’s mentor. Our spaces are inviting and challenging. Children can choose quiet play in the reading corner, get creative in the studio or enjoy exercise in the garden. We have a large, green outdoor area with a discovery garden full of natural materials and a sandpit that stimulates imaginative play. In addition, there is a sports and play area where children can play football, run and romp. We aim to spend at least twenty minutes outside with the children at least once a day. Activities are tailored as much as possible to the children’s interests. They are allowed to have their say in what we do: from crafts and building to sports and games. We regularly organise themed activities and work together on a joint project. There is also room for homework support and children can take a break after a busy school day. We collect children from various primary schools in Gemert and the surrounding area. The transition from school to after-school care runs smoothly, because our pedagogical staff already know the children and know how their day has gone. Parents can easily swap days or request extra childcare via our parent app, subject to availability. We believe that good contact with parents is very important; at the end of the day there is always time for a chat and we keep you informed of any special events via the app. At BSO De Ontdekking, your child is the centre of attention. Everything we do, we do with the idea that ‘your child is the main character’. We offer a warm, stable environment in which children can develop at their own pace and discover the world around them with pleasure.
