Kindcentrum Het Octaaf is located on the edge of the Baggelhuizen district in Assen, within the multifunctional Schakelveld centre. As part of CKC Drenthe, we provide both education and after-school care for children aged 4 to 13 at a single location. Our out-of-school care (BSO) has room for 40 children and is open on school days from the end of lessons until 18:30; during school holidays we welcome children from 07:30 to 18:30. Our work is guided by the principles of Multiple Intelligences. This means we offer activities that match each child’s unique talents—such as nature-smart, picture-smart, music-smart and people-smart learning. Every Friday afternoon we run a ‘smart afternoon’ where children explore weekly themes in their preferred style of learning and discovery. Excursions and guest speakers are a regular part of this programme. Our pedagogical staff focus on personal attention and a safe, positive atmosphere. We use Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) to create, together with the children, an environment in which everyone feels safe and valued. On arrival children have space to unwind, then choose from various corners: a quiet reading area, a creative table, a construction zone or an outdoor play space. We work with flexible groups so children of different ages meet and learn from one another. For parents we provide clear communication through the parent portal and WhatsApp groups per school year. This keeps you informed about upcoming activities and any need for extra help or materials. You can also use our before-school care (VSO) from 07:00 until school starts and after-school care (NSO) after lessons end.
