BSO IKC Dom Helder Camara

Welcome to BSO IKC Dom Helder Camara, located at Onnemaheerd 2 in Groningen. As part of the VCOG foundation, we provide after-school care for up to 60 children aged 4 to 13. Our BSO is located within the Integral Child Centre Dom Helder Camara, allowing children to transition directly from school to a familiar and safe environment. We operate with three age groups: BSO 4-5 years, BSO 5-6 years, and BSO 7+. Each group has its own space tailored to the developmental needs of that age. The youngest children play in bright, safe rooms with a reading corner, construction area, and home corner. Older children have access to a space with games, books, and a table for crafts and group activities. All groups also use the gym for sports and games. Our program is broad and varied. We offer creative activities such as crafting and drawing, as well as cooking and baking in our kitchen. Outdoor play and nature and environmental education are central. We regularly organize excursions and make use of the library within the child centre. Free play is important, but we also offer structured activities. We follow an open-door policy, allowing children to choose which activities they want to join. Our opening hours are from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM on school days. We also offer before-school care (VSO) from 7:00 AM to 8:30 AM and holiday and margin care during school holidays. We work closely with the primary school in the same building, ensuring a smooth transition and familiar environment for the children. Our pedagogical staff are professional and engaged. They guide the children with attention and care, allowing space for initiative and development. We believe it is important that children feel safe and valued. Therefore, we work with clear agreements and structure, but also with room for personal choices and responsibility.
