BSO Huis de B

Welcome to BSO Huis de B, the out-of-school care centre in Groningen’s Schildersbuurt district. Our house at Adriaan van Ostadestraat 38 accommodates 200 children aged 4 to 12. Guided by the mission ‘play together, learn together and try everything’, we use vertical groups that match each child’s stage of development. Our youngest group, The Nest, is for 4- and 5-year-olds. After school they gather at one of four table groups—Orange, White, Yellow or Black—for a shared meal and then choose between sports or creative activities. Structure is gentle but clear, giving children both safety and freedom. When children turn five they move to The Foredeck. Their world expands: they gain access to the Small Hall, the Craft Studio and the Drama Room, and they play outside on the large square. Each table group has its own mentor who listens to the stories of the day before the children decide where they want to be. From age seven children join The Quarterdeck. The Big Hall and the gym are now open to them. From nine they receive extra independence and can join special 9-plus activities. Responsibility and space grow hand in hand. The eldest children, aged 10 to 12, finally arrive at The Hangout. After an annual initiation ritual they receive their Hangout wristband and truly belong. There are no rules, only agreements. The Hangout offers a pool table, separate boys’ and girls’ lofts, and regular Hangout evenings. We collect and deliver children from De Petteflet and Nassauschool. We are open after school, on teacher-training days and during holidays. Extra services: Early Birds (07:30-08:00) and ‘less stress after six’ (care until 19:00 with a hot meal).
