Our after-school care (BSO) Rivierenbuurt is located right on the playground of Maas & Waal primary school, surrounded by tall trees and next to a large vegetable garden. The building was purpose-designed for us according to Hestia’s pedagogical vision and has won several awards. As soon as you step inside you sense the difference: little crawl-through gates, abundant wood, bright open spaces and a central Piazza where children, parents and our international team meet. We speak both Dutch and English so every child feels at home. After school there is plenty of room to romp, garden or head out together. We use the playground, the vegetable garden and the immediate Rivierenbuurt neighbourhood. Our activities are varied: sports and games, nature and gardening projects, creative outings and discovery trips. We work from free development, allowing children to decide where they put their energy. Our pedagogical approach is inspired by Montessori, Steiner and Reggio Emilia: space for self-initiative, attention to different cultures and sustainability. The Hestia Rivierenbuurt team consists of passionate pedagogical professionals from all over the world. We feel like a close-knit family and are ready every day to offer children a safe, challenging and warm place after school.
