Eigen&Wijzer After-School Care JKC De Opbouw is located on the ground floor of primary school De Opbouw at Burgemeester Praamsmalaan 34 in Bolsward. Since May 2022 we have provided after-school care here, in close partnership with the school, for children aged 4 to 8. Our pedagogical staff collect the children directly from their classrooms after school and bring them to our spacious, bright after-school room that is seamlessly connected to the school building. We always start the afternoon with a moment of calm: time to catch your breath, have a drink and enjoy a healthy snack. Afterwards the children choose what they feel like doing. Our layout invites discovery: there is a construction corner with Kapla and LEGO, a creative studio with paint, clay and recycled materials, a quiet reading corner with cushions and picture books, and a large table where we regularly play games or do crafts. When the weather permits, we go outside. The school has a green playground with climbing equipment, a sandpit and plenty of space to run or play football. We also use the nearby parks and sports fields for nature excursions or sports and games activities. Our pedagogical staff work according to the ‘Eye for Interaction’ principle: we observe, follow the child and offer appropriate activities. We believe it is important that children make their own choices and are guided in doing so. Every child is allowed to be unique and is encouraged to grow wiser. During study days and school holidays we are open all day. We then organise themed days such as ‘Technology Tuesday’, ‘Nature Wednesday’ or ‘Sports & Games Thursday’.
