BSO De Wester

BSO De Wester is located on Westerdoksdijk, right along the IJ river and just a short walk from Amsterdam Central Station. From this spot we welcome children aged 4 to 13 who are looking for both challenge and relaxation after school. The location is easily accessible for families in the Houthavens, Bickerseiland and Prinseneiland areas and offers a safe, familiar place in the heart of the city. We work with the DOENKids! programme, a specially developed activity plan for after-school care that centres around sports and play. Children decide for themselves whether to join the group activity or do something on their own. The space we provide for this is both literal and figurative: our location is designed with the influence of children in mind. They help decide on the layout, the range of activities and the day-to-day running of the group. In this way they discover what impact they can have and practise skills they can use later in life. For older children we have the teen club, a separate group for children from 9 years old. This group is given extra space to carry out their own ideas and develop at their own pace. We regularly make trips to playgrounds and parks in the area so that the children can also play and explore outside the location. BSO De Wester works with primary schools in the area to ensure a smooth transition from school to after-school care. Children are picked up from the school playground and walk or cycle to the location together with our pedagogical staff.
