BSO Tommerhuus

BSO Tommerhuus is located in a spacious building on a quiet spot just 50 metres from Middelhorsterweg in Haren. The location is part of Kidswijs Kinderopvang and offers after-school care for up to 35 children aged 4 to 13. The premises cover about 650 m², divided between several group rooms, and feature a beautiful, fully fenced 350 m² garden. At BSO Tommerhuus, fun and freedom of choice are central. Children decide for themselves how to spend their free time; we provide a safe and stimulating environment where they feel at home and free. Our pedagogical approach is built on core values such as familiar faces in close-knit teams, small-scale vertical groups, personal attention and short lines of communication. We use child participation as our basic method: children are actively involved in decisions about activities, outings and rules through special children’s meetings. This boosts their self-confidence, communication skills and engagement. Our after-school care consists of four different rooms. The home group forms the heart of our care and includes a large kitchen with big tables for meals and table-based activities. The large downstairs room is set up for the youngest children (4–7) with a dolls’ corner, Lego table, dressing-up clothes, reading nook and cosy seating. The upstairs room is a chill-out area for older children (8–13) with TV, games console, sofas and a big table for board games. Our indoor/outdoor playroom lets children burn off energy even in bad weather with table tennis, foosball, darts, gymnastics and karaoke with a stage. The garden has artificial grass, special outdoor play equipment, a hill with slide and crawl tunnel, a square for cycling and running, and a basketball hoop. Four bantam hens provide fresh eggs daily, giving children a playful way to learn about care and nature. BSO Tommerhuus is open after school until 18:00 on weekdays during term time. In holiday weeks we are open from 07:30 to 18:00. We collect children from school and ensure a smooth transition from school to after-school care. Both children and parents can settle in at their own pace in our familiar, homely atmosphere.
