Struin Wijchen

Welcome to Struin Wijchen, our nature-based after-school care (BSO) located at Oud Woeziksestraat 3 in Wijchen. We are part of Struin, the center for nature pedagogy in the Nijmegen and Wijchen region. As the first in the Netherlands, inspired by Scandinavian examples, we started a nature BSO. Our goal is to offer children extra developmental opportunities by playing in the wild nature and creating a connection with nature. Our location accommodates up to 36 children and has been registered in the National Childcare Register since September 1, 2016. We pick up children from various schools in Wijchen in close consultation with De Eerste Stap, with whom we collaborate under the motto 'green and strong together'. This collaboration means good communication during school pick-up moments, extra outdoor activities during holidays for children from De Eerste Stap, and exchange of expertise in the field of risky play and child development. At Struin Wijchen, children experience unforgettable nature adventures. They can build huts and climb trees, roast chestnuts on a self-made fire, catch fish with a large landing net, search for beavers, make flower bouquets and grass wreaths, complete survival courses, catch mice with a 'live trap', make herb butter from spring plants, play tag and hide-and-seek in the forest, make musical instruments, find peace in nature, and play freely in the forest with friends. We provide care during holiday and study days on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Our pedagogical staff guide children in their development and continuously work on quality and expertise. In bad weather, we take shelter in the Scouting Woezik building at the same location.
