BSO Albert Schweitzer Baanweg

BSO Albert Schweitzer Baanweg is the place for children aged 7 to 13 who want to play, discover and be together after school. We are literally located inside the Albert Schweitzer primary school building, so children can walk straight into our spacious BSO rooms via the entrance on Baanweg 20 in Rotterdam-Overschie as soon as lessons end. Our pedagogical staff are part of the school team; one colleague even leads sports and games activities during school hours, giving the children a familiar face. We run two separate groups: one for 4-7 year-olds (Jan Steenstraat) and our own 7+ group at Baanweg. This set-up provides calm, familiarity and age-focused activities. Inside we have three welcoming rooms. One room is specially designed for our younger 7-8 year-olds: clear, safe and full of peers. The other two rooms are for the older children up to 13, with materials and activities that match their world. Children will find a reading corner to get lost in a book, a construction zone for the best creations, a craft corner for creative outbursts and a dolls’ corner for role-play. In the wide corridor huts can be built and when the weather is poor we gratefully use the school’s small gym. Outside, a large, challenging playground is directly accessible from the rooms. We also make regular trips to nearby parks and playgrounds or explore the neighbourhood together. Autonomy and creativity are central: children choose what they want to do and are encouraged to come up with their own ideas. Playing, learning, experimenting, discovering and above all enjoying – that is our starting point every day. During school holidays our children never get bored. BSO Holiday Land then starts: a varied programme around ever-changing themes, put together by our enthusiastic staff. Each theme offers new workshops, outings and activities both indoors and outdoors. We sometimes collaborate with BSO De Ontdekking to make the holidays even more fun. Parent involvement is important to us. We keep parents informed via our newsletter and are always reachable at albertschweitzerbso@kinderdam.nl or 06-41025901. There is not yet a parent committee at this location; parents who would like to contribute are very welcome. In short, BSO Albert Schweitzer Baanweg offers children aged 7 to 13 a familiar, safe and challenging place to grow, play and have fun after school.
